Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Youth Programs presents
The Youth Jazz Philharmonic
Students currently in grades 9-12 will have the special opportunity to perform in an ensemble that combines jazz big band with symphony orchestra. Students will learn about ensemble playing, improvisation, and historical elements contributing to this unique form of ensemble music. Rehearsals are coached by Youth Programs faculty as well as visiting master classes from guest artists. The Youth Jazz Philharmonic will perform two public performances in the 2018-2019 season.
Students currently in grades 9-12 and playing the following instruments are eligible to join; violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, bassoon, oboe, English horn, French horn, tuba, harp, percussion.
There are no auditions for the Youth Jazz Philharmonic; seats will be filled as available by qualified students. A student should have a minimum NYSSMA score of 3, or equivalent, to be qualified for YJP.
All rehearsals will take place at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Irene Diamond Education Center (60th & Broadway, Manhattan).
